Brain Health Q & A

What is brain health?

Brain health refers to the ability to remember, learn, plan, concentrate, and maintain a clear and active mind. Your brain is part of your nervous system, of which your central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and your peripheral nervous system (nerves that connect your body to your brain and spinal cord) comprise.

Your personality and memories, as well as everything you’ve ever felt, seen, heard, or touched, comes to you through your brain. For this reason, neurological illnesses can be especially unsettling because they can alter your ability to act, speak, and think.

What are the common conditions that affect brain health?

The team at Getachew Health Center diagnoses and treats a range of neurological conditions and diseases. Some of the most common include:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Seizures and epilepsy
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Memory disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease
  • Stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases
  • Movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease and tremors
  • Acute and chronic neuropathy
  • Brain and spinal cord tremors
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Neuromuscular disorders

The integrative medical practice focuses on finding the root cause of the disease and its progression and provides treatments that focus on the cause to prevent further damage and alleviate symptoms.

What diagnostic tests assess brain health?

Getachew Health Center is a state-of-the-art medical facility and offers many diagnostic tests to assess brain health. Some of the tests include:

ClearEdge® DANA

The ClearEdge DANA test detects and monitors cognitive indicators of brain disorders, including depression, dementia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), vestibular disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and concussions. The team uses the information from the test to determine treatment and guide decisions about when it’s safe to return to usual activities if applicable.

The team also uses the information gathered from the ClearEdge DANA test to develop a plan focused on the prevention of neurological conditions and diseases.

ClearEdge Toolkit

The ClearEdge Toolkit allows the team to track long-term brain health, as well as assess brain health in the event of an injury and monitor recovery.

ClearEdge Motion

The ClearEdge Motion test tracks and assessees balance over time.

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

The EEG assesses the electrical activity in your brain and is used to diagnose epilepsy. Getachew Health Center offers ambulatory EEGs and video ambulatory EEGs. For epilepsy, the team offers many treatment options, including vagal nerve stimulators (VNS).

Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS)

EMG and NCS are electrodiagnostic studies that assess nerve function and damage.

The team at Getachew Health Center determines the type of brain health testing best suited for you based on your needs.
